Dental emergencies rarely happen on a convenient schedule. If you’re an existing patient dealing with a dental emergency outside of regular business hours, Dr. Auslander is always on call. Simply call our office, leave a message, and Dr. Auslander will return your call as quickly as possible to guide your next steps. If you’re a new patient, call us and we’ll do everything we can to get you seen right away.

If the pain has come on suddenly, is sharp and throbbing, or if the pain is not subsiding, we recommend urgent treatment.
For Damaged Teeth (Broken, Cracked, Dislodged)
Teeth that have been damaged from accidents come with different degrees of pain, trauma and anxiety relating to the appearance of your smile. To save and repair damaged teeth and to be sure severe trauma and damage hasn’t occurred, please call us to discuss and make an appointment.

What to Do Right Now, Before You Reach Us
While you’re on your way to our office or waiting for a call back, a few simple steps can make a real difference in the outcome:
- Knocked-out tooth: Pick it up by the crown, not the root. If possible, gently rinse it (no scrubbing) and try to place it back in the socket. If that’s not possible, keep it moist in milk or saliva and get to our office within 30 to 60 minutes for the best chance of saving it.
- Cracked or chipped tooth: Rinse your mouth with warm water and apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek to reduce swelling. Save any broken pieces if you can.
- Severe toothache: Rinse with warm water and gently floss to rule out trapped food. Avoid aspirin directly on the gum, it can burn tissue. A cold compress can help manage pain until your appointment.
- Object stuck between teeth: Try gently removing it with floss. Avoid sharp objects like pins or knives, which can injure your gums.
- Bleeding gums, lips, or tongue: Apply firm, gentle pressure with clean gauze or a cloth. If bleeding doesn’t slow after 10 to 15 minutes, this may be a hospital emergency (see below).

The sudden onset of extreme pain to your teeth or gums, without any physical accident occurring, is usually a dental emergency. Other emergencies associated with your mouth may occur so please call us if:
