Despite the high quality of dental care available, many people still fear going to the dentist. To help ease fears, Auslander Dental offers partial sedation dentistry. This option, also known as nitrous oxide therapy, allows patients to experience a stress-free, conscious partial sedation while undergoing both simple and complex dental procedures.

Nitrous oxide is a safe and effective treatment method, utilized for more than 100 years. In combination with a local anesthetic, nitrous oxide aids nervous patients in their quest for a painless and relaxing dentist visit. It should be noted that medical history must be assessed before the first use. It may not be appropriate for those who are pregnant, have Cardio Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or are taking certain medications. During use, the patient remains awake and retains normal body functions, including speech and awareness. Nitrous oxide is NOT a numbing agent, but rather it subdues anxiety. The effects wear off quickly and will not affect the remainder of your day.

Nitrous oxide is inhaled through a small mask placed over the nose. After a few minutes, the patient will experience a floating sensation and/or tingling in the extremities. At the conclusion of the procedure, the nitrous oxide flow is halted, while the oxygen flow increases. The patient is recommended to rest for a bit but then can continue with his/her day. A very minimal “hangover” is reported. Nitrous oxide is a great tool in guaranteeing you maintain optimal dental care. Do not let fear interfere with your oral health any longer!
